Sunset

Not the North shore wave but we have had plenty of these beautiful sunsets over the past few weeks. No surf and not much sign of any too soon. Congratulations to my good friends Joe and Heather Hart who have just added a new baby boy to their family.

Smooth Groove

This past weekend was spent surfing with my good friend Rich Emerson. I haven't surfed with Rich much over the past couple of years and this weekend was like the good ol' days. Rich has a great style on a log and always gets everyone else amped in the water. He's made a lot of friends around the world and his grommet like enthusiasm is very contageous. Happy days.

Wegener Alaia

Today James Parry was out styling on his 6'4" Alaia shaped by Tom Wegener. I have to admit that these wooden shapes were not really my bag, and if your not convinced about these wave riding vehicles check out Thomas Cambell's 'The Present' and you can't fail to be impressed. James is hooked, he put in some time on these in Noosa and is one of a very small group of UK surfers getting loose in the juice.

A room with a view.

If I wanted to upset my friends and local surfers, I could place a webcam in my kitchen window. Never going to happen.

Choices

A clean swell has arrived on our shores today, not one of those out of control new swells, just a sweet little swell, clean pealers and for the log and some funky inside sections for the smaller vehicle. Roll on tommorrow.

Tip Time.

Enough of the pigeons, although there is another truck full of pidgeons ready to rock and roll across the road from our house. Back to the fun of surfing, this is the ever so stylish Joe Davies on the nose and cruising.

Bird racing

Its not all surf and sun in Sennen, occasionally there is the serious business of Pigeon Racing. The Grand National of bird racing departed from Sennen this morning, 4000 highly trained pigeons, with the determination of top class atheletes, left the beautiful shores of West Cornwall to head back to Northern Ireland, a five hour trip as the pigeon flies. As in any race you have those that refuse to jump a hurdle or leave the starting gate. As I look out of my kitchen window there are four not so highly trained pigeons either wondering where all their mates went or decided that a holiday in Sennen was a better option than going home.

Doodle town

In our lives at the moment their seems to be a few changes happening, some great, some good and some not so good. i'm sure all things will work out but in the mean time I have decided to go back to my original name for my photography and images, Brightbox. Just felt like a change. As for this shot, I doodled this on my 6'8" single fin egg a few years back when we were living in an absolute S..t hole. It was this or the walls.

If anyone is interested in purchasing any of the prints seen here on the blog or the gallery link then please contact me on russ96uk@yahoo.com and I'll give you details of sizing, pricing and framing options.

'Mr Pierre's Ding Repairs'

I have decided to capitalise on the growth of surfing and degree of collisions, crashes and wipeouts! My wife Jill is also offering a board art service for any boards that need some lovin' and reinvention. Anyone locally who needs a board repair or make over can drop me a line.

SHAAAAARK!

I need to get a water housing. The bay is full of graceful baskin sharks and the water is oily glass. I had a great paddle out tonight and met some interesting characters all mesmorised by the beauty of the sharks cruising the bay. Two yachts moored in the bay is a rare sight as its never really calm enough, they had sailed down from wales and followed the sharks here. My friend Luke was out with his new film housing, his dad Geoff, a regular in the line up was the pioneer of BBC underwater photography back in the seventies. This past week has been one of the most beautiful weeks to be living in Cornwall, waves, weather, sharks and sun. This an old shot, but a memorable day, Captured from my friends fishing boat, just off Lands End. Thats Longships Lighthouse in the distance, site of many a Cornish ship wreck and a warning in one of the busiest shipping channels in the world.
