Mikey and the Duct tape

Just been cruising the blogs  as usual and was looking at the Slide 65 site Mikey Lay is shortly off to Indo for some surf time with his sponsors Rythm and then off to the Land of the Long white Cloud to take part in the Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational. Mikey one his place after winning the Hip Wigglers in Jersey last year and fully deserved it too and wish him all the luck. If he surfs like he normally does...look out and he'll be representing Rob Wright and Slide 65 Surfboards which is amazing for Rob too.

Hip Wigglers 2013

This years Hip Wigglers was epic. We just returned from Jersey, tired a little bruised, wind swept but laughing. An amazing crew of people that gets better every year. James Parry and Joe davies did and amazing job of organising this years event. Great bands and phenomenal surfing. The final was the best display of logging I have seen in some testing conditions. Mike Lay came out as the 2013 Champion and thoroughly deserved it for his creative and cat like surfing. His prize was...a wild card to the next Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational...Priceless. Well Done Mikey and all the crew for an epic weekend. Keep a look out for some more photos. This one is an instgram from the LCD on the 7d!!

Mr Lay Hip Wiggle

Mikey has a cat like approach to surfing, said of others before but he is probably the most reactive logger amongst the UK Hip Wiggling crew. It often seems Mikey has the quickest reflexes to react to any certain situation thrown up by the wave. Riding a pintail slide 65 log he also has the smoothness in his turns. If I had an ounce of the reactions I'd be stoked. Studying in Liverpool at St John Moores in Liverpool you can see his writing skills in the latest issue of Kook.

Mr Lay

Mike Lay having fun in his adopted speed trim 'strauch' five. This left has been so much fun, moments of greatness but also moments of the normal fickle Sennen where its a challenge to say the least> However, that is what makes Sennen fun, and we think why it produces some great surfers Long and Short.

The Laid Back Mr Mikey Lay

Back from Uni at Liverpool for the offshores this week, slightly bored waiting for his one morning a week seminars in return for huge fees for something he is already really bloody good at; writing. Mikey comes back into town and has the audacity to shred like he never left. When you can't access something you love for a few weeks you return to it either slightly rusty or with a hunger and vigour and somehow better, the latter is Mikey's story. Watching Mikey and Matt Travis yesterday was a breath of fresh air. Sick layback on his Slide 65 pintail single fin log.

Cheeky little section

Mike Lay, hangin ten when needed. Mikey is a great surfer who has come up through the rank and file of all the Sennen grommets and will soon be styling his way off to university to study sports journalism.

Another Sennen Seedling

This is another one of the up and comers from down our way in West Penwith. Mike Lay is developing his style and speed along with his partner in crime'Scoop'. Mike came a rrespectable fourth at the Brits in Jersey and has been getting loose in the juice since our return.
