'Globe and Laurel'

Occasionally in life we meet people that inspire you, this seems to be happening a lot to me lately. This shot is the Royal Marine badge proudly dispalyed by Marine Nicholas 'Gibbo' Gibbons. Gibbo was the eigth man in a patrol, he stood on a mine, lost his lower leg and was flown home. Two weeks ago he surfed his first wave. Inspiring.

My opinion does not often count for much, but I still think that he is still the most stylish UK surfer who rides the shorter variation of vehicle. Effortless is a great word to describe his surfing.

This may seem like Pazza week but I have just been informed by the good man himself that he has been selected to represent Britain at this years Worlds in Peru alongside Ben Skinner. Good man and super well deserved.

Bad Inteligence!

Whilst shooting James last weekend former Royal Marine and defender of the peace Freddy Warwick rocked up after being given some bad intel on another break. After taking a drive out and then heading back this is Freddy taking out his anger and giving it some on his Tyler 305. I would not want to be the person who gave him the runaround!

I wish I had taken this beautiful shot but it was taken by an amazing photographer Keith Novosel. The surfer is Mikey Detemple and the location is New York. This last couple of posts have been homage to other photographers. As filmakers go, Cyrus Sutton knows how to put a great flik together. As a surfer....see for yourself. Not sure who took the photo or frame grab but I snatched this beauty from the almond surfboards blog which is always worth a look if your into board porn. I believe Mr Sutton rides for Harbour who also make some beautiful boards, I know this as myself and Rich Emerson own a couple of tasty single fins, mine 7'8" and Richies 7'10" both yellow which as everyone knows is the fastest colour.

Rob spends his days renovating the wooden chalets with his young apprentice James Parry but always seems to score the good days. When everyone else is stuck indoors, me especially.

Combat Surfers

Just to remind those of us out there that would like to show there support that my good friend Rich Emerson is hosting the first 'Operation Amped UK surf camp'at Gwithian beach near St Ives. Inspired by what he saw last year at a similar event in California the surf camp is aimed at creating awareness and helping former or serving military personel suffering from Post Traumatic Stress and those that have lost limbs whilst serving in the British Forces. I'm doing an article for Drift about Richies story, himself a sufferer of PTSD, and his surfing. If you have no idea what these people go through believe me when I say I have been moved to tears over the past few weeks hearing details of Richies own suffering. Even if your anti-war, don't ignore those who are simply doing a job. Its the politicians that need a big rocket up their fat arses. Thats you Mr Brown!
