Have it!

In the twenty minutes I was shooting on Sunday I was up and down the beach trying to get some different angles of James, this has to be my favourite.

Sunday part deux

Another shot I took from our classic afternoon Sunday session of Mr Parry hangin out where he belongs. The board he's riding is an Australian log 9'6" by 22.5" wide diamond Tail and pulled in nose with a deep concave and shaped by Thomas Bexon on the sunshine coast. You can find his boards at www.thomassurfboards.com

Emulate and appreciate

During or after a surf I would like to think we all have our heroes who influence our surfing, those we try our hardest to emulate in some way, maybe take a piece of their style. Reading the latest Surfer Mag, Rob Machado would focus on Occy and Lopez. Me personally it has to be Tyler Hatzikian. Five years ago on a trip to the UK and before he got out of the brown Puttsborough, North Devon water, I got two shots of Tyler. One hangin' ten, the other was this drop knee. No one does it better.

Block move

I'd like to thank my good friend Rich Emerson, pictured above, for his classic blocking manouvre on one greedy surfer today. Busy times at Sennen required busy tactics and with a little help from a friend the brutal but classically funny tactic allowed yours truly to catch a beauty and Rich, who had by this time had a number of set waves in his bag is a gentleman and a scholar.

For sale

I've been surfing quite a bit lately and neglecting the chance to take any new shots, apart from Pazza, who always happens to be off somewhere at the moment. Anyway, this was one of my first shots presented on the blog and one of my favourites, not a bad seller either!!! Looks great blown up and framed if anyone wants a copy for their office, study, bedroom or lounging area. Please drop me a line if any of my shots are of interest to your needs, whether they're needed for promotional postcards or commercial use let me know.

300 posts

To have my own personal celebration of reaching the big 300, I would like to dedicate a little more of my blog to other artists who contribute some amazing artwork in this world of surf culture and beach lifestyle. Any one out their who feels my blog would be a worthy place to display such works then please forward work to my email. Happy Blogging. To begin the proceedings here's something my lovely wife did earlier in the story of Brightbox. email: russ96uk@yahoo.com

Calm before the swell!

A small south coast swell today. Some nice little peelers, lovely sunny day and light North westerlies. Seems to be the carm before the storm. Sam Bleakley redirecting.

Respect all and learn the rules!!

Another weekend of autumn swells. Half term has arrived in Penwith and so have the crowds. The bad manners that come with the hoards of surfers travelling down with absolutley no regard for surfing etiquette seems to be at an all time high. As a surfer and photographer I see the carnage from the beach and the water. Please, Please , Please if anyone is reading this from up country, or are learning to surf, and you come to the Penwith area or the West Country to try your new found sport, learn the rules first. then some manners, and above all some respect for the people around you, whether in the water, in the car parks or in the local pubs. As a person I am allowed to rant every so often. By the way this is the newly crowned British Champ Mark 'Igor' Harris ripping at Praa Sands.
