Perfect selection
This didn't look like much but turned into a classic solo session. If ever there was a board in my rack thats a keeper for life, its my faithful 9'6" Pintail triple stringer shaped by jools at Gulf Stream a few years back. When you have a few a boards and you contemplate which one to surf, sometimes grab the wrong one and wished you'd taken the other. However, sometimes you grab the perfect board for the perfect session and this was last night..stoked.

Sunset Seshuan
What an amazing evening. Home from work and down to the surf. My wish came through. The swell dropped but so did the wind. Super light onshore with some long left peelers that my triple stringer was simply adoring. I hope this weather stays with us.

Come on Summer
We had a couple of sunny but cold days here in West Penwith this Easter and some good swells too. However, I wish the sun would stay out, the sea warm up and the wind stop blowing for a bit...pleeeease.

Sunshine and Waves
A couple of nights back my son Jago and I sat on the rocks above these lefts at Sennen. Such a beautiful evening and when my five year old said two words "pub? Pint?" that just topped off a beautiful day.

Rise of the grommets
Sennen does has some fickle waves, arguably down to the heavy grain sand that does not compact tightly like other beaches. In many ways I envy the surfers who have the perfect consistent sand banks that rarely change. North Devon has some beauties like Croyde, Woolercoombe, and Saunton, Cornwall has Godrevy, Polzeath, and Porthtowan. These sand banks shift and are occasionally affected and ripped up a little, but here in Sennen it seems like its like a game of sand castles. One large swell or big storm, and bye bye banks, clean slate and start again. We wait for the sand to form again and then adjust the surfing to the wave we get that particular week!!
However, Sennen has historically turned out some great surfers. Chris, Essex and Cassius Tyler, John Buchorski, Sam Bleakley, Tristan Jenkins, Seb and Sam Smart, and James Parry have always surfed the fickle waves of Sennen and Gwenvor. A training ground for adapting their surfing to the waves on offer and then taking this and letting loose on the perfection they find around the globe.
Whats great at the moment is seeing the new groms coming up through the ranks. Maisy and Issac Marshall, Jake, Jowan, and Oran Lynch will all be great surfers and they are lucky to have the likes of the aforementioned to look up to and use as role models. If they decide to make a life and career out of surfing or just surf and continue to enjoy it as they themselves mature with age they have some amazing surfers to look up to. Just look out for Jago Pierre, 4.8 years old and already impressing his dad with a parallel stance to rival Butch Van Artsdalen or John Peck shredding Pipeline!!!
This shot is super stoked, super keen wave magnet Jake Sage.

Sennen Surfer
Leftover sign. We left the surf fayre sign out a little too long last year. Bless em' the local skaters used it for a ramp and this is whats left. Says it all really, Sennen surfer.

High Tide
Ever since discovering the beauty of Sennen Cove in Cornwall, two things have always been apparent and always standout. One being the Smart Family, pictured is Seb Smart, the youngest of the three brothers, and the other is the high tide banks (read often closeouts but so much fun) on a good summer swell. Match the two and everyone just wants to pull in!!

Surf Action Surf Fayre
Please come along this Saturday and support our Surf Fayre. This is not only a fundraiser for our charity Surf Action but also a gathering of some amazing small businesses from Cornwall. It will be great to see as many people come along, listen to some music, watch some films, look at some beautiful boards and support Cornish businesses. See you there 10-8pm at the Sennen Community Hall behind the school.

Block move
I'd like to thank my good friend Rich Emerson, pictured above, for his classic blocking manouvre on one greedy surfer today. Busy times at Sennen required busy tactics and with a little help from a friend the brutal but classically funny tactic allowed yours truly to catch a beauty and Rich, who had by this time had a number of set waves in his bag is a gentleman and a scholar.
